Funds for train station parking welcome

Congratulations to Mayor Jun Choi and, even more so, to the residents of Edison on the federal stimulus money that will be used to create additional parking at the Edison Train Station.

The area is in need of the added parking spaces because the train station is a wellused value to commuters in the Edison community. The $11 million in federal funding for the project will create local jobs and be a boost to the local economy. Thanks are also owed to our congressman, Frank Pallone, who voted for the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

I am happy we have a mayor who cannot only advocate on our behalf but is also heard by the right people. Mayor Choi’s relationship with President Barack Obama and his ability to be included in stimulus discussions at the White House will continue to make a tremendous difference for Edison. That working relationship with the president of the United States cannot be discounted.

The train station parking expansion will add about 500 more spots for commuters using the Edison Train Station. This will especially help the residents of Edison’s District 31, which is the district immediately adjacent to the train station, helping to alleviate the residents’ parking concerns.

For Mayor Choi, this is yet another example of producing a positive result when dealing with issues that matter to residents. For years, residents in the area have known the obvious need for additional parking around the station. But it is because of Mayor Jun Choi’s leadership that the project will become a reality.

A short time ago, Mayor Choi was advocating for even more parking spots to complement the NJ Transit project. These spots were supposed to be part of a revitalization project of the area. But when the redeveloper wanted to jam Edison with nearly 800 housing units in the process, Mayor Choi said absolutely no and slammed the door on a development project, a project that would have further congested and overpopulated the area. This illustrates the continual example of Mayor Choi working on behalf of the people of Edison.

I’m proud to have a mayor who exudes great leadership qualities, and I’m even happier for the positive results that have been produced [for] my town, Edison.
