To the editor:
My name is Jeffrey Wright and I am one of your two Democratic candidates running for township committee. Over 20 years ago, I realized that I wanted to get involved with local politics. I always knew that if I wanted to to see change, I had to be part of that change. I left Piscataway for college, and received a Bachelor of Science degree in General Business/Finance from Norfolk State University in Virginia. After graduation, I returned to Piscataway and exercised my civic duty. I served on Piscataway’s Zoning Board of Adjustment, Open Space Committee and the Senior Citizens Committee. Over a period of several years. I learned a lot about local government and the awesome responsibility of serving the public.
I am a registered investment adviser. I hold several financial advisor designations and a New Jersey State Life Insurance license. I know how hard my clients work in order to realize financial security. I have also coached and have given back to those less fortunate in the community through volunteer work as a member of the Free and Accepted Masons, my fraternity and treasurer of my church.
My wife Jennifer and I moved to Hillsborough four years ago because we thought it would be a perfect place to raise our family. With Hillsborough’s great schools, open space, and family orientation, we have not been disappointed. But even in the relatively short time we have lived here, we have seen more stores close, municipal taxes increase, home assessments increase yearly (thereby increasing taxes) and rampant residential and recreational development tied to tax giveaways or zoning/planning concessions by our township committee.
As I continue to meet more Hillsborough residents, they tell me about the need for more vibrant businesses in Hillsborough and their concerns about overdevelopment, traffic and congestion, and the loss of services while developers and other special interests get waivers and other forms of tax abatement.
I am running to help make Hillsborough more affordable by making our government more accountable and transparent. I believe by reviewing our budget and our actuals line by line, we can find areas for efficiency and savings without giving up valuable services or making residents pay for services they did not previously pay for. I humbly ask for your vote on November 6, and I hope you will support my running mate Olivia Holmes, as well as County Freeholder candidates Shanel Robinson and Sara Sooy.
Together, we can truly make every tax dollar count, and to restore fairness and value to our constituents.
