MANALAPAN – The Manalapan Township Committee is getting involved in an effort to oppose a rate increase that could impact customers of the Gordon’s Corner Water Company.
During a meeting on Sept. 12, committee members voted unanimously to pass a resolution authorizing Manalapan’s intervention in a move to oppose what officials described as a “significant water rate increase.”
The territory served by the Gordon’s Corner Water Company is comprised of the southern third of Marlboro and the northern half of Manalapan.
The committee’s resolution states that many residents of Manalapan are served by the Gordon’s Corner Water Company and notes that the company is a bulk purchaser of water from the Suez Matchaponix Water Company.
Suez Matchaponix has filed for a water rate increase of 32 percent which, if granted, “would have a significant adverse effect upon Manalapan residents who are customers of the Gordon’s Corner Water Company,” according to the resolution.
The Gordon’s Corner Water Company is opposing the rate increase before the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities, according to the resolution.
Manalapan’s elected officials authorized the township administrator and the township attorney to take any action that may be necessary to intervene in the rate increase proceeding on behalf of Manalapan residents who are customers of the Gordon’s Corner Water Company.
Messages left at the Gordon’s Corner Water Company, at Suez Water and at the state Board of Public Utilities were not returned.
