Monmouth Arts to hold gala on Oct. 6 in Holmdel

HOLMDEL – A fundraiser that seeks to “channel the future” will touch down at the modern metropolis, Bell Works.

The event is aimed to help support the art scene in Monmouth County.

“Stardust,” the Monmouth Arts gala fundraiser will be held on Oct. 6 from 6:30 to 10 p.m. at the facility that is located at 101 Crawfords Corner Road in Holmdel.

According to the company’s website, Monmouth Arts is “the official county arts agency, it’s our goal to perpetuate a vibrant arts community that truly enhances the quality of life in Monmouth County.”

Teresa Staub, Executive Director of Monmouth Arts, said the fundraising effort will boast an identity largely influenced by Ziggy Stardust and the future of modern existence.

“We live in a world of ever-evolving technology that touches every part of our lives,” Staub said in a statement. “Stardust, a futuristic fundraiser celebrates the nexus of art and technology whether it’s our gala venue Bell Works, the original Eero Saarinen-designed Bell Labs which housed over 6,000 engineers and researchers and is now enjoying a renaissance as an incubator for high-tech start-ups…”

Staub described Bell Works as a “natural fit” for the fundraising effort. She said the building’s history as a space for innovation coincides with the vision for Stardust.

“What better place to have (Stardust)? Staub said.

The gala will feature a performance by hip-hop dance troop THE REDEF MOVEMENT, Staub said, and include virtual reality experiences, a silent auction via mobile bidding and an awards ceremony.

The awards ceremony will recognize photographer Danny Clinch, Bell Works, investors Bank and Diane Turton Realtors, according to the Monmouth Gala website.

An on site 3D painting experience sponsored by Microsoft will allow attendees to experiment with Google Tilt Brush, Staub said.

A second virtual reality experience – a series of 10 foot tall inflatable sculptures with an augmented reality component – will be available to guests, Staub said.

The sculptures, created by artist Michael Rees, mimic a version of Rees’ exhibition that is on display at Grounds For Sculpture, Hamilton.

Those interested in attending the even can visit monmouthartsgala.org for tickets. Atteendees of the futuristic gala are encouraged to wear attire that coincides with the concept “creative with a sparkle,” Staub said.
