Surgeons at Hackensack Meridian Health Bayshore Medical Center performed their first LINX Reflux Management System procedure on Oct. 8.
The LINX device, a revolutionary new treatment solution for patients with the most severe cases of acid reflux, is a bracelet of magnetic titanium beads that is implanted laparoscopically to strengthen the lower esophageal sphincter (LES).
Patients with Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) have a weak LES muscle, which is the muscle that allows food to enter and remain in the stomach. Patients with GERD suffer from heartburn, regurgitation or nausea. The magnetic attraction between the beads in the LINX device helps keep the LES closed to prevent reflux and improve the patient’s quality of life.
LINX is a minimally-invasive, same day procedure that can be completed in less than an hour. It is a permanent, drug-free alternative form of treatment for GERD patients. LINX is approved by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration.
