Like the U.S. Marine Corps, East Windsor Township is looking for a few good men and women – in this case, to volunteer to serve on one of its advisory boards and committees.
The East Windsor Township Council would like residents to step up and serve on one of nearly a dozen advisory boards and committees, which range from the Planning Board and the Zoning Board of Adjustment to the Recreation Commission and the Clean Communities Advisory Committee.
The Mayor and Township Council make appointments to the advisory boards and committees at the January reorganization meeting, as well as throughout the year as openings occur.
“We encourage residents to become a contributing part of their government by volunteering to serve on a township board or committee,” Mayor Janice S. Mironov said.
“Our government operates best when volunteers offer input and advice on our operations and projects. Public participation provides mutual benefits for residents and elected officials,” Mayor Mironov said.
Hopefully, that public participation will stimulate residents to have a greater interest in – and understanding of – the role of local government, Mayor Mironov said.
In addition to the planning and zoning boards and the Recreation and Clean Communities committees, residents can serve on the Commission on Aging and the East Windsor Municipal Alliance for the Prevention of Substance Abuse.
They may also volunteer to serve on the Economic Development Committee, the Environmental Commission and the Health Advisory Board.
While most of the committees’ names are self-explanatory and descriptive of their mission, some are not.
The East Windsor Municipal Utilities Authority provides drinking water and handles wastewater treatment for township residents.
The Local Assistance Board provides policy direction to the welfare director in dealing with public assistance.
Residents who are interested in volunteering can get an application form from the municipal clerk or from the township website at www.east-windsor.nj.us.
They may also send a letter of interest and a resume or information about their background to Mayor Janice S. Mironov and Township Council members at the East Windsor Township Municipal Building, 16 Lanning Boulevard, East Windsor, N.J. 08520.
For an application form or further information, call 609-443-4000, ext. 238 or 240.
