Jackson Police Beat, Dec. 5

The Jackson Police Department reported the following incidents that occurred in the township:

• At 8:01 a.m. Nov. 21, officers Christopher Wasnesky and Christopher Kelly responded to a residence on Lewis Lane to investigate a report of a male who had overdosed on heroin. Police said the officers arrived at the home and located a deceased 39-year-old male and evidence of heroin use. Detective Shawn Hobson also responded, as did the Ocean County Sheriff’s CIU and the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office.

• At 12:03 a.m. Nov. 22, while working a directed enforcement driving while intoxicated detail with the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, Police Officer Robert Reiff conducted a motor vehicle stop with a 2004 Toyota in a parking lot on East Veterans Highway after a license plate lookup revealed there were outstanding warrants for the registered owner of the vehicle. Police said the 32-year-old female driver was arrested on two warrants out of Toms River. She was also charged with hindering apprehension for providing a false name to the officer, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of prescription legend drugs without a prescription. The woman was processed and released after posting bail on the Toms River warrants. Police said a 22-year-old male passenger was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was processed and released.

• At 1:26 p.m. Nov. 22, officers Greg Schmidt, Chris Kelly and Chris Wasnesky responded to a residence on Third Street to investigate a report of an assault. Police were told that an individual had been assaulted by an acquaintance while returning home from an evening out. Police said a 25-year-old male was arrested and charged with simple assault. He was processed and released.
