Police: Ohio man tried to set himself on fire

WOODBRIDGE – A 35-year-old man from Ohio was taken to a hospital for evaluation after he allegedly tried to set himself on fire at a Shell gas station on Amboy Avenue, Woodbridge Police Capt. Scott Kuzma reported.

The Woodbridge Police Department received reports of a naked man who was spilling diesel fuel near the gas station’s pumps and trying to light the fuel on fire at 6:28 p.m. Dec. 28.

When police officers arrived at the gas station, they observed the naked man and learned he had allegedly doused himself and the ground with 17 gallons of diesel fuel from a fuel pump and apparently attempted to light it on fire using a lighter. Police said there was no fire.

The man, who was later identified as being a resident of Ridgeville, Ohio, was transported to a hospital for evaluation. Police said he was charged with causing or risking widespread injury or damage.
