SOUTH RIVER–A suspended Rutgers University student was charged with contempt of a court order on Dec. 27, Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey and Rutgers University Police Department Chief Kenneth Cop announced in a joint statement.
Izaia Bullock, 22, of South River, was apprehended on Oct. 30, 2018, and charged with two counts of attempted murder in the first degree and two counts of conspiracy to commit murder in the first degree, according to law enforcement authorities.
Bullock was charged after an investigation by the Rutgers University Police Department and the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office determined that on Oct. 29, Bullock allegedly initiated a plot to murder the family members of an acquaintance. The intended victims are not affiliated with Rutgers University, according to a prepared statement from the prosecutor’s office.
The prosecutor’s office was informed by Rutgers University that Bullock is considered a suspended student, according to the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office Public Information Officer Andrea Boulton.
Boulton said the Rutgers University Police Department was involved in the case because it is within their jurisdiction.
On Nov. 1, Bullock was charged with one count of cyber harassment in the fourth degree, according to the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.
On Nov. 29, a court order was presented to Bullock prohibiting him from having any verbal, written, personal, electronic or other forms of contact or communication with the alleged victim. Law enforcement authorities allege Bullock knowingly violated a provision of that court order on Dec. 26 when he allegedly contacted the victim via a group message on an online application, according to officials.
On Dec. 27, Bullock was charged with contempt of a court order which had been issued by state Superior Court, New Brunswick, according to the prosecutor’s office.
Bullock’s detention hearing scheduled for Dec. 28 was adjourned at the request of the defense for Bullock. The hearing was scheduled for Jan. 8 before Judge Pedro Jimenez Jr. He is detained pending the hearing, according to Boulton.
