JACKSON – Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary No. 4703 has announced the kickoff of its annual Young American Creative Patriotic Art Contest. Local students in grades nine through 12 have the opportunity to compete for $29,500 in national scholarships, according to a press release.
Students must submit an original two- or three-dimensional piece of artwork. Digital art, photography and jewelry are not accepted. The entry must have been done during the current 2018-19 school year and the application must include a teacher or supervising adult’s signature, according to the press release.
Students begin by competing at the local VFW Auxiliary level. The winner from each auxiliary advances to a district competition and district winners advance to the state competition. State winners compete for their share of $29,500 in national awards, and the national winner is awarded a $15,000 scholarship.
All state winning entries will be displayed and judged at the VFW Auxiliary National Convention that will take place from July 20-24 in Orlando, Fla., according to the press release.
Student entries must be submitted to Jackson VFW Auxiliary No. 4703 by March 31.
