MONROE – A man found inside an apartment in the Rossmoor adult community that had extensive fire damage was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Monroe Township Police was called by an employee of the Middlesex County Office of Aging around 12:27 p.m. on Jan. 28 to 354 Old Nassau Road, Apt. F, in the Monroe community. The call was for a report of an unconscious male lying on the floor of the apartment that had extensive interior fire damage but no active fire, according to information provided by the Monroe Township Police Department.
Upon arrival, officers located a male subject lying on the floor of the apartment who was pronounced dead on the scene. Members of the Monroe Township Fire Department and Middlesex County Fire Marshal’s Office worked alongside the Monroe Township Police Department Detective Bureau. After an investigation, the fire was deemed to be undetermined but not suspicious, according to the statement.
The Middlesex County Medical Examiner’s Office arrived on scene and removed the deceased for further investigation in the manner of death.
The man has not been identified, nor a cause of fire determined, as of press time.
