The Churchill Junior High School Drama Club will present “The Insanity of Mary Girard” by Lanie Robertson.
Based on real historical events, the play focuses on Mary Girard, the wife of the wealthiest man in America, 18th-century Philadelphia philanthropist and banker, Stephen Girard. In 1790 Girard committed his wife to an insane asylum. She is a woman living in a time before women’s rights and mental health awareness.
Performances will take place at 7 p.m. on Feb. 21 and 22 at the school, 18 Norton Road, East Brunswick. Tickets are $12 for adults, or $8 for students and seniors.
There will be a special matinee performance for East Brunswick students and staff at 3 p.m. Feb. 20. Tickets at the door are $5.
