The Goodwill Home Medical Equipment store at the Route 1 Plaza shopping center in Lawrence Township, which sold refurbished durable medical equipment, is being replaced by Goodwill Industries’ Donation Center, according to Goodwill Industries officials.
The Donation Center at the Route 1 Plaza at 2901 Brunswick Pike opened its doors Feb. 28, providing a place where residents can donate gently-used items in good condition – clothing, accessories, household goods, toys, books, computers, home medical equipment, furniture and housewares.
The Goodwill Donation Center, which is staffed by an attendant, is open Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., and on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. A computerized donation kiosk will enable donors to create a customized receipt for tax purposes.
Donors can track their giving online at www.goodwillnj.org, and also generate reports that detail their donation history in case they misplace or lose their receipts.
Because Goodwill operates more than 20 retail stores, all of the money generated by the donations will directly benefit the nonprofit group’s mission – to provide job training and career services to persons with disabilities and special needs so they can find jobs.
Goodwill offers computer skills training, forklift certification and light industrial skills training, while its Helms Academy offers a tuition-free way for adults to earn a high school diploma and also earn college credits.
“As an entrepreneurial-minded nonprofit, Goodwill generates its own operating budget to fund mission services,” said Mark S. Boyd, the president and chief operating officer of Goodwill Industries of Southern New Jersey and Philadelphia.
“Donating the clothing your children have outgrown or the gadgets that never get used will jump-start the whole process,” Boyd said. “It is a win-win for everyone, including Lawrence Township, as we enhance recycling and sustainability efforts.”
Although the Goodwill Home Medical Equipment store at the Route 1 Plaza shopping center has closed its doors, people can still buy refurbished medical equipment at Goodwill’s warehouse at 300 Benigno Boulevard in Bellmawr.
Goodwill Industries of Southern New Jersey, which was founded in 1948, is community-based nonprofit organization that helps persons with special needs or disabilities to find work. For more information, call 856-439-0200 or visit www.goodwillnj.org.
