Holmdel Theatre Company presents “Life is a Dream” at The Duncan Smith Theater in Holmdel.
Opening on March 29 and running through April 14, the Spanish Baroque classic was written by Pedro Calderón de la Barca and has recently been adapted by Diane Dowling.
Directed by Chris Szczerbienski, the production tells the story of Segismundo, the Prince of Poland, who has been imprisoned in a tower by his father King Basilio, after it was prophesied that his son would bring disaster to the kingdom.
After briefly freeing his son, Segismundo goes on a rampage and the king is forced to imprison him again. Basilio then tries to convince him that it was all a dream.
First published in 1635, the Pedro Calderón de la Barca wrote the play during the Spanish Baroque period. Barca is regarded as one of Spain’s foremost dramatists and one of the finest playwrights of world literature.
“Life is a Dream” will be playing on March 29-30 and April 5-6, 12-13 at 8 p.m.; March 31 and April 7, 14 at 2 p.m.
Tickets are $25 general; $20 senior; $15 student.
The Duncan Theater is located at 36 Crawfords Corner Road in Holmdel.
