Letter to the Editor: Hopewell Township extends its social media reach

To the Editor:

Thanks to a suggestion from one of our volunteers, Hopewell Township is now on Instagram.  By joining Instagram, the township is increasing the number of residents reached through social media at no additional cost.  Also, younger people tend to use Instagram more than Facebook and the number of Instagram users overall is increasing.

If you are not familiar with Instagram, it is a social media platform owned by Facebook. Unlike Facebook, all posts include photos.

It is easy to set up a free account.  Just download the app and answer a few questions.  Once you are on, go to the search field, enter “hopewelltownshipnj” and click “follow.”  You will then see all township posts.

The township will continue to post on Facebook as well. Currently the township has three different Facebook pages: Hopewell Township is at HopewellTownshipNJ; the police department is at HopewellTWPNJPolice; and the health department is at HopewellHealthMercerNJ.

I encourage all residents who use social media to follow the township’s accounts.  If you have any other ideas for outreach, please let me know.

Sincerely,
Michael Ruger
Deputy Mayor
Hopewell Township
