To help those in need, the Hopewell Presbyterian Church will serve as the host to its annual giant rummage sale for three days in May.
The proceeds from the rummage sales are used to support local and worldwide mission projects, according to church officials.
“In the past, proceeds have gone to the Trenton Rescue mission, Home Front, and the Girl Scouts. After this rummage sale later in the year we will have a meeting to go over where the funds are going to go,” said Carol Krystek, organizer of the rummage sale.
She has been organizing the rummage sale for 15 years.
The sale will be held from May 2-4 at the church, which is located on 80 W. Broad St. in Hopewell.
“My fundraising goal is to reach $10,000. Each year that has been my goal. The most I have been able to raise is $14,500. We get a great community response from our rummage sale,” she said.
Krystek said she calls the sale a ‘Mini-Walmart’.
“I call it that because we have jewelry, linens, housewares, small appliances, clothing, toys furniture, tools and so many other items. We definitely get a lot of china and housewares during this sale,” she said.
She said if you do not watch out people will run you over to get to the items up for sale.
People can drop off donations at the church beginning at 3 p.m. on April 28 through noon on May 1.
Church officials said they will not accept shoes, plastic cups or bottles with advertising, magazines, textbooks, upholstered furniture, encyclopedias, computers, typewriters, mattresses or large appliances.
The rummage sale will take up space in fellowship hall at the church, the outside of the church and four other separate rooms in the church, according to officials.
“Everything for this sale will be separated, which will make it easier for people to navigate. For example, we have office supplies and frames room, a seasonal room, a linens room, as well as, a separate room for books,” Krystek said.
She said it takes a lot of volunteers to execute the event.
“Last year we had 33 volunteers on the first day. It is a lot of work, but also a lot of fun,” Krystek said.
This rummage sale is a major fundraiser for the church and brings in most of their funds, according to Krystek.
“This sale means everything. We are recycling for people and making money to help people out. It is just great to know we are helping the community,” she said.
