FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP – A teenager from Howell was issued a ticket for careless driving following a two-vehicle collision on Route 9 in Freehold Township.
On April 23, a 17-year-old male from Howell was driving south on Route 9 and had just passed the jughandle for Three Brooks Road when he attempted to shift from the right lane to the left lane, according to Freehold Township Police Lt. Daniel Pasquinucci.
While the teenager was attempting to change lanes, he sideswiped a vehicle that was traveling in the left lane. That vehicle was being driven by a 46-year-old male resident of Howell.
Pasquinucci said the force of the impact caused the 17-year-old’s vehicle to strike a utility pole. He said the teenager declined medical attention at the scene. Police subsequently issued the young man a summons for careless driving.
Meanwhile, the vehicle being driven by the 46-year-old veered off Route 9, struck a parked car and hit the side of a small building at 3430 Route 9 South that houses the Asu Mare Peruvian restaurant.
Pasquinucci said the driver was transported to Centra State Medical Center, West Main Street, and treated for minor injuries.
Freehold Township code enforcement personnel responded to the scene and deemed the commercial building unsafe as a result of the damage it sustained upon being struck by the vehicle.
