Spring is in full swing, and there’s no better place to shop, dine and play than Downtown Bordentown City.
The third annual Spring Into Bordentown City event is coming and residents are encouraged to join the Downtown Bordentown Association merchants and restaurants to kick off a busy season of events in the one-square mile town.
The event will be held on May 11 between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. and is free.
Attendees will receive a passport to collect a complimentary dozen flowers as they stroll the downtown. In addition to the town’s eclectic boutiques and galleries, they are also featuring a juried artisan market on the sidewalks of Farnsworth Avenue.
The day will start with the 22nd annual Franklin Carr Memorial Iris Competition, which will be held at the Old City Hall from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Sponsored this year by the Bordentown City Creative Team, the Iris Competition is held annually in honor of Franklin Carr, a famous horticulturist from Bordentown City.
He is a world renowned hybridizer of irises, and locals celebrate his achievements with a memorial garden in Hilltop Park at the end of Farnsworth Avenue and the annual iris competition each spring.
The competition is open to the public and also free to enter and attend. Anyone interested in participating should bring their irises the morning of the event and register between 8 to 9:30 a.m.
Old City Hall is located at 13 Crosswicks St., and will also serve as the host to some visual arts fun as part of Bordentown City Creative Team’s first Make & Take event.
Many local businesses will be planning special events and displays, and some will be partaking in the Make & Take event with arts and crafts activities for both children and adults. Attendees can finish the day by dining in multiple restaurants along Farnsworth Avenue.
