East Brunswick Rec Department receives funding for special needs programs

EAST BRUNSWICK – The East Brunswick Recreation Department has received a $20,000 grant from the Department of Community Affairs’ “Rec Opps For Individuals with Disabilities” program.

This award will provide funds to offer children with special needs residing in East BrunswicK, with an inclusive recreational camp program that would include science projects, dancing, arts and crafts, nature/educational programs, games and social activities.

“We are pleased to see the department award this money to East Brunswick. We’re excited to see more of our towns integrating their recreation programs so that every child who wants to play is able to,” said Senator Patrick Diegnan (D-Middlesex), who announced the award on May 7 with fellow 18th District legislators Assemblywoman Nancy Pinkin (D-Middlesex) and Assemblyman Robert Karabinchak (D-Middlesex).

Pinkin added, “Our hope is that this grant will expose students with disabilities to a variety of programming so they can stay engaged throughout the year.”

Karabinchak praised the award saying, “Every opportunity we can give to the kids of our community to play in public parks and stay active with different programming is a win.”
