MILLSTONE – Municipal officials, residents and veterans of the United States armed forces will gather on Red Valley Road on the morning of May 27 to honor individuals who died in military service to the nation as Millstone Township holds its annual Memorial Day commemoration.
All residents and veterans are welcome to attend the parade. The ceremonies are scheduled to take place rain or shine.
Participants will gather at Millstone Park, 4 Red Valley Road, beginning at 8 a.m. and the parade will start at 9:15 a.m.
The parade will be seven-tenths of a mile and will end at the veterans memorial near the municipal building, 470 Stagecoach Road.
During the parade, the New Jersey State Police will provide a contingent of horse-mounted units and motorcycles, according to township officials. Also present during the parade will be motorcyclists, owners of classic cars, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, the Allentown High School marching band and bagpipers.
A memorial service will be held at about 10:15 a.m.
Following the memorial service, free food will be provided by Black Bear Lake Day Camp and Vesuvio’s at Black Bear Lake Day Camp, 457 Stagecoach Road. Activities to follow will include a concert, a singing competition and an awards ceremony.
“It’s going to be a big event,” Township Committeeman Al Ferro said. “We are hopefully going to come together as a community and commemorate and honor the veterans who allow us to live the way we live.”
