East Windsor Township residents who want to clean out their files and shred personal papers can do so at the township’s Document Shredding and Recycling Day, which is set for July 10 at the East Windsor Township Senior Center.
The free event, which is limited to East Windsor Township residents, will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the senior center, which is located at 40 Lanning Boulevard, off Princeton-Hightstown Road/Route 571.
Township residents can bring up to 10 boxes of documents to be shredded, allowing them to dispose of unwanted and unneeded documents, Mayor Janice S. Mironov said. No commercial entities are permitted – just residents.
“This is a great opportunity for East Windsor residents to dispose of old or confidential documents in a secure manner,” Mayor Mironov said.
Shredding provides a non-recoverable tool that provides confidentiality and helps to prevent identity theft, she said.
But document shredding is only one part of the event.
Residents can bring cell phones, toner cartridges, fluorescent light bulbs and batteries to be recycled. The East Windsor Lions Club will collect used eye glasses, which are cleaned and distributed to those in need.
RISE, a community partnership that offers social support services, will be on hand with some trucks to collect clothing, shoes, blankets and housewares – mugs, plates and similar items – and usable furniture that will be given to those in need.
While documents and cell phones, toner cartridges and light bulbs will be accepted, electronic items cannot be accommodated at the event. This includes televisions, computers, computer monitors and accessories, and non-working appliances.
But not to fret, because electronic items can be dropped on weekdays, between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m., at the East Windsor Township Public Works facility on the corner of Ward Street and Etra Road.
“We are committed to recycling in East Windsor Township, which will reduce the township’s solid waste costs while helping to preserve a greener environment,” Mayor Mironov said.
Document Shredding and Recycling Day is being sponsored by Mayor Mironov and the East Windsor Township Council in collaboration with the East Windsor Clean Communities Committee.
