Children and teens will have the opportunity to explore Finch robots this summer at the Old Bridge Public Library.
Sessions will be held at both the Central Branch, 1 Old Bridge Plaza, and Laurence Harbor (LH) branch, 277 Shoreland Circle.
The Finch is a small robot invented by Carnegie Mellon’s CREATE lab to promote computer science education. It was designed to inspire students by providing them a tangible and physical representation of coding.
Meet the Finch Robot is for children ages 7-10 who have little or no experience with computers or coding. The separate sessions will be held on Jul, 11 and 14, Aug. 2, Aug. 7 at LH, Aug. 8 and Aug. 12.
Intro to Coding with the Finch Robot is geared toward children ages 8-12, and will teach how to control a Finch with Snap!, a simple block-coding language. No previous computer experience is necessary for this two-session program. The classes will be offered July 17 and 18 at LH, July 29 and 30, and Aug. 15 and 16 at LH.
Coding with the Finch Robot is a slightly advanced version of Intro to Coding, with additional topics introduced as time permits. This three-session program is designed for children ages 10-13 with some programming knowledge. Classes will be held July 24-26.
Coding the Finch Robot with Java is an introduction to Java coding and how it can be used to control a Finch. Geared for children ages 13-17 with some computer or programming knowledge, the four-session program will be held Aug. 19-22.
Space is limited and registration is required for all Finch classes by calling 732-721-5600, ext. 5033 or by visiting www.oldbridgelibrary.org.
