JACKSON – Two young men were arrested and charged following a narcotics investigation that was conducted by the Jackson Police Department.
According to police, on June 12, in response to complaints the agency had received regarding suspected narcotics activity in the area of Teakwood Drive, Ash Road and Mimosa Court, officers established surveillance in the area.
Police said detectives observed a 2012 Mazda, which was reported to have been involved in the activity, leave the area. They followed the vehicle to Arboretum Court where the driver pulled alongside another vehicle. The detectives observed a transaction take place between the two drivers. Both vehicles were stopped by the detectives after they witnessed the transaction, according to police.
An investigation determined the driver of the second vehicle had purchased a THC cartridge (cannabis vape cartridge) from the driver of the Mazda. Police said both individuals were placed under arrest.
Detectives subsequently went to the residence of the driver of the Mazda and conducted a search. During the search, bags containing marijuana and cocaine were recovered, along with drug paraphernalia.
Police said a 21-year-old male resident of Farmingdale was charged with possession of less than 50 grams of a substance believed to be marijuana. He was released pending a court appearance.
Police said a 21-year-old male resident of Jackson was charged with possession of more than 50 grams of a substance believed to be marijuana, possession of a substance believed to be cocaine, possession with the intent to distribute marijuana in a quantity greater than 1 ounce, but less than 5 pounds, possession with intent to distribute cocaine in a quantity of 1 ounce or more, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled dangerous substance while operating a motor vehicle. He was released pending a court appearance. Police said the Mazda was seized pending forfeiture proceedings.
