Soccer players encouraged to register for Florence camp

The Florence Township Soccer Association’s (FTSA) annual summer camp program returns this summer.

On July 29 through Aug. 2, athletes who are interested in learning the game of soccer or looking to develop their skills are invited to sign up for the FTSA’s summer camp program. The program is offered to youngsters from kindergarten through eighth grade.

The deadline to sign up is July 22.

The camp will take place at the Marter Complex on 2093 Old York Road in Florence.

Campers will have the opportunity to learn from experienced soccer coach, Tom Boracci, who has set up training plans for different athletes pertaining to their age. The program also allows other travel team coaches and high school athletes to participate in the instruction as well.

“The goal is to get kids out there, teach them some soccer skills, build their confidence and let them get to know each other,” said FTSA President Christie Tuttle.

The cost for children from kindergarten through second grade is $75 per camper.  The cost for campers in grades three through eight is $100, but a multi-signup for kids in grades three through eight is discounted at $90 per camper.

The registration fee includes a shirt and a treat from an ice cream truck on a designated night for the camp.

Tuttle said that additional monies collected from the registration fees are used to cover expenses related to the camp as well as returned back to the FTSA for costs such as field maintenance and to purchase equipment for the program.

“The camp provides players with training on skill development and we emphasize fundamentals of the game,” Tuttle said. “It really focuses of individual skill, teamwork and having fun. We want kids to come out and have a fun time, meet kids their own age, learn the game of soccer and learn to love soccer.”
