Applications are being accepted for the Fall 2019 South Brunswick Citizen Police Academy.
The academy will give community members a behind-the-scenes look at policing. A dozen officers and detectives will share their perspective and insights into the daily workings of the police department. Topics include motor vehicle laws, criminal law, use of force, crime scene processing, defensive tactics and internal affairs. The academy will culminate with a day of practical exercises where students will handle simulated motor vehicle stops, disputes and other realistic scenarios.
The academy will start on Sept. 4. Classes will be held from 6:30-9:30 p.m. every Wednesday for 11 weeks in the training center at police headquarters, 540 Ridge Road, Monmouth Junction section of South Brunswick. There will be no class on Nov. 6. Graduation is set for Nov. 20.
Class size is limited. Community members must complete an application and go through a screening process. Interested residents should contact Julie Trammell by email at [email protected]. Applications must be submitted by Aug. 14.
