Police search for teens responsible for vandalizing school buses, American flag at Herbert Hoover Middle School in Edison

EDISON – Police are looking for three individuals seen on surveillance video vandalizing seven school buses parked behind Herbert Hoover Middle School and then returning to spraypaint more graffiti on the school’s American flag, according to police.

“School security videos indicate these suspects are older teenagers or young adults, in the 15-18 age range,” Police Lt. Robert Dudash said. “They face multiple counts of criminal mischief and other potential charges.”

School Principal Brian McGrath reported to police on Aug. 27 that teenagers allegedly set off fire extinguishers inside three school buses and spraypainted graffiti on the outside of four others at Herbert Hoover Middle School on Jackson Avenue during nighttime hours over the past week.

On Aug. 28, police were back at Herbert Hoover because the principal said vandals struck again overnight, damaging the school’s American flag with black and white spray paint, police said.

The Detective Bureau is handling the police department’s investigation into the incidents. Anyone with information should contact the Edison Police Department at 732-248-7400.
