Millstone Day calls residents for day of fun

MILLSTONE – Old friends and new friends are invited to gather for a day of entertainment, activities, food and fun as they celebrate Millstone Township and leave memories behind for its 175th anniversary.

Millstone Day, an annual celebration of the community, will be held from noon to 5 p.m. Sept. 22 at Frogbridge Day Camp, 7 Yellow Meeting House Road, Millstone Township. Admission is free.

Free activities at Millstone Day will include arts and crafts, mini-golf, tennis, paddle boats and swimming.

For a fee, there will be a bounce house, an obstacle course and a bungee trampoline. Use of the inflatable area/bungee trampoline is $5. An all-day combo for all three activities may be purchased for $8.

There will be music, food, vendors and groups offering displays and information. Millstone Elks Lodge No. 2613 will sponsor the beer garden.

This year’s event will be held during the 175th anniversary of the founding of Millstone Township, which was established as its own municipality in 1844.

As part of the anniversary, there will be a paper trail/time capsule. Residents will be asked to write about their memories of Millstone Township and those comments will be placed in a time capsule.

“When you visit an historic site or hold an old tool, have you ever imagined what it might have been like to live in that era, even for a few minutes?” township officials wrote in a municipal newsletter.

“When standing under an ancient tree, do you wonder what tales it could tell, if it could? Time and its history connect every generation. It is hard to imagine what 75 years from now will look like. On the flip side, Millstonians of that day will want to know about the days long gone.

“Please, let’s give them a glimpse of our lives with your thoughts on paper,” township officials wrote. “Imagine how thrilled they will be, opening up our time capsule. An era will unfold for them. Be a part of that history.”

The time capsule will be buried at Millstone Park, Red Valley Road, which is under construction and scheduled to open in 2020.

Officials said the time capsule would be opened 75 years from now – in 2094, which will be the 250th anniversary of Millstone Township.
