Dorothy M. Prouty (Dot) passed peacefully on April 9, 2019 with family by her side. Born in Atlantic City, NJ to Emory and Dorothy Bogan Kiess on October 3, 1930. Her parents, husband, Wendell R. Prouty, son David E. Prouty and her stepdaughter Joan Parsons, predecease her. Her brother, Dr. Emory Kiess, daughters, Kathleen Marsh, Nancy Lytwyn and Wendy Andreotta (Robert), daughter inlaw, Sharon Prouty and her sons Paul H. Prouty and Andrew S. Prouty (Michele), survives her. Her grandchildren Crystal Sweet (Dustin), David (Heather) and Jonathan Prouty, Scott and Brian Prouty and Kyle and Conner Prouty and a great granddaughter, Brooklyn Michele Sweet. She also had step-grandchildren Kim Negrini (Buddy), Sandy Valenti (Joseph) and Jodie Keir and numerous stepgreat grandchildren.
Dorothy brought up her family in Kendall Park and Dayton while working at South Brunswick High School and was an active member of NJEA until her retirement in the 1990’s. She was a longtime resident of Rossmoor retirement village in Monroe Township where she started a travel club and became an active member of the community. Dorothy enjoyed planning trips and had a passion for traveling all over the world with friends. Dorothy was a huge NY Yankee fan, and also loved watching tennis and golf. She loved reading, watching movies, local theater, going to Broadway shows but most of all loved being with her family, especially during the holidays.
The family is having a memorial mass for Dorothy on June 1, at 10:00 am at St Cecilia’s Catholic Church in Dayton, NJ and they invite all friends to attend. Following the mass, there will be a private burial at Holy Cross Cemetery (Cranbury Rd. in Jamesburg, NJ). Dorothy will be buried with her husband, Wendell.
