Ellen M. Wightman, age 85, passed away on Wednesday, April 17, 2019. She was born to the late John McFarlane and Ellen McFarlane on February 3, 1934..
Ellen was a graduate of the Eastman School of Music, University of Rochester and was an accomplished musician, educator, and composer. She eventually moved to Lawrenceville, New Jersey where she taught for the West Windsor-Plainsboro Regional School District until she retired. Teaching music to children was her passion. and true gift. She was forever gentle and patient..
Ellen wrote her own band series instructional books for beginning instrumentalists. In addition, she returned to school in her late 50’s to earn her Masters degree from Trenton State College. Learning, she believed, was life-long. Her other interests included family, sewing, quilting and reading. She also enjoyed travelling.
Ellen is survived by her two children Rebecca and Kym, three grandchildren, and many other loving relatives and close friends.
Ellen requested a private celebration to be held later. Her daughters give all of those who cared for her their greatest and warmest gratitude. If you wish to donate in her honor, please send a memorial contribution to trentonmusicmakers.org. This organization is made up of educators, mentors, and working musicians who provide Trenton-based opportunities for young people to learn and play music together.
