HOPEWELL: Tsunamis, Avalanche open spring soccer season 

The Hopewell Valley U11 Tsunamis opened their spring campaign on March 12 with a win and a loss in the Bridgewater Ice Breaker Tournament.
In the opening game, the Tsunamis lost, 4-2, to the Branchburg Twisters. Maura Graham and Andie Cappucci scored off assists from Kathryn McCabe and Mae Fesmire.
The Tsunamis rebounded in the second game with a 2-1 win over the Arsenal Fireworks.
In the first half, Ava Brass opened the scoring off an assist from McCabe. Andie Cappucci scored off a direct kick early in the second half to secure the win. Maggie Buglino, Leah McManimon, Caroline Mormile and Emma Smith provided offensive support and helped the Tsunamis dominate time of possession.
On Sunday, the Tsunamis opened Middle New Jersey Youth Soccer Association Flight 1 league play with a scoreless draw against the Westfield Menace. Goalie Kirsten Ruf and the Tsunami back line of Addie Sullivan, Madison Ayres, Rory Danieluk and Charlotte Tellier deserve credit for thwarting the Westfield front line. 

The U-12 Hopewell Avalanche beat the Scotch Plains-Fanwood SPF Cruyff, 2-1, on Sunday. Avalanche forward Dean DiGiacomo tied the game with an assist from midfielder Alex Tagliareni, followed by forward Lucas Gaissert’s winning goal in the waning minutes on an assist by DiGiacomo.
Midfielders Patrick Capstack, Max Johnson and Andrew Neal provided a multitude of opportunities. Defenders Kyle Beveridge, Connor Plarre and Garrett Zimmerman were solid in defending. Goalkeepers Sam Neal and Paul Warznak were spectacular in goal.
