HILLSBOROUGH: Jones, Ciano honored at colleges

Carli Jones, a member of the Hillsborough High School Class of 2013, has achieved national distinction by being named a Goldwater Scholar.
Carli is currently a junior at Lafayette College in Easton, Pa., majoring in biology.
The Goldwater Scholarship is given in the field of mathematics, science and engineering to about 250 students nationwide.
The foundation considers the nominee’s field of study, career objectives and commitment and potential to make a significant contribution to the field.

Jonathan Hayden of Hillsborough was named to the dean’s list for academic excellence for the fall semester at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Md.
To be selected, a student must earn a grade-point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale. A classload must be at least 14 credits (at least 12 graded).
Jonathan is the son of Glen and Deborah Hayden and attended Lawrenceville School. Jonathan, who is majoring in economics, will graduate in May 2017.

Dustin Ciano of Hillsborough has been awarded the Gary and Laree Trollinger Scholarship for a music educator by the Kutztown (Pa.) University Department of Music.
Established by a former Kutztown University music professor, the award provides a scholarship for a junior-year music education major who demonstrates academic achievement, aptitude in performance, proficiency in piano, and a commitment to teaching in the schools after graduation.
