EAST WINDSOR – The Township Council unanimously adopted its 2016 municipal budget for $21.5 million Tuesday night, which calls for no increase in the municipal tax rate for the third year in a row.
According to Mayor Janice Mironov, that means the municipal tax rate has been identical for the past four consecutive years, from 2013 to 2016.
“We work hard to put the budget together based on the foundation of prior years,” said Mayor Mironov. “I want to thank the Finance Director Laurie Finger for her excellent work plus our Township Manager (James Brady) for his important work and the other departments for their input.”
The mayor said she thought the budget was a solid, conservation and responsible budget.
“It’s one that well meets the needs of our community and maintains service levels at the very high level of quality that we have been providing to East Windsor residents and businesses,” she said.
The tax rate for 2016 would be 43 cents per $100 of assessed value. The average township household, with homes assessed at $258,052, would see a municipal tax bill of about $1,120. The average township household in 2015, homes were assessed at $258,351 and were seeing a municipal tax bill of about $1,115.
The 2016 budget is $21,552,312 and it’s an increase of 1.17 percent over last year’s budget of $21,302,983.
“It remains the smallest part of the total property tax bill and it averages up around 15 percent of the total tax bill,” said the mayor.
