HIGHTSTOWN: Memorial Day parade organizers seek veterans to serve as marshals

HIGHTSTOWN – Organizers of the Hightstown-East Windsor Memorial Day Parade are seeking help finding World War II veterans in order to keep its tradition going.
“We are seeking WWII vets, two preferably, to ride in the parade as marshals,” said Committeewoman Phyllis Deal in an email Monday.
She said the reason why it is so difficult to find veterans to serve as parade marshals is because most men of that age are reluctant to be in the public eye.
This year’s parade will the 97th and will be held on May 30. It kicks of at 9 a.m. on Stockton Street and Dutch Neck Street and will make its way downtown, finishing with a barbecue at the VFW Post 5700 on Dutch Neck Road.
There will be wreath-laying ceremony at the Civil War Monument on Stockton Street and on Main Street at library and on Peddie Lake.
Anyone interested should contact Mayor Larry Quattrone, chairman of the Parade Committee.
Next parade committee meeting is at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 26, at the VFW Post 5700, 140 Dutch Neck Road.
