South Branch Reformed Church will cook roast beef dinner

Flea markets open up at Route 260 firehouse
Sat., April 23 — The first flea market for they season will be held at the Hillsborough Fire Co. No. 2 firehouse on Route 206.
The flea markets are held from 9 as long as there are customers and are located on the grass adjacent to the firehouse.
Parking will be on the grass and behind the firehouse. There will be no parking next to the firehouse or in the driveway.
Future markets are May 14 and 21, June 4 and 18, July 9 and 23, Aug. 6 and 27, Sept, 10 and 24, and Oct. 8 and 22.
Market outside spaces are available for $15 each. Vendors can show up that morning and pay. Bring your own tables and chairs.

Township teens to star in ‘School of Rock’ musical
April 27, 28 and 29 and May 1 — Matthew Conlon of Hillsborough is cast in the lead role as the renegade substitute teacher who turns his class into a rock band in “School of Rock,” a musical based on the film that starred Jack Black, at the Villagers Theatre in the Franklin Township Municipal Complex, 475 DeMott Lane, Somerset.

Rock-roll band to play outside at Manville library
Sat., April 30 — Manville Library at 100 South 10th Ave., hosts an outside concert, 5:30-7 p.m., by the cover band The McGuineas, which plays jazz, swing and rock and roll from artists like Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Elvis Presley and Billy Joel, with the occasional Bruce Springsteen and Van Morrison. Free class will help prepare people for citizenship exam
April 30-June 18: Judy Rothberg from Literacy Volunteers of Somerset County will lead a free U.S. citizenship qualification class on six Saturdays from 10 a.m. to noon at the Manville Library at 100 S. 10th Ave.

Firehouse ladies auxiliary holds Mother’s Day flower sale
May 6 and 7 — The Manville North End Volunteer Fire Company No. 3 and Ladies Auxiliary will hold their annual Mother’s Day flower sale of plants for gift giving. A Special Sale Night will be held on Friday, May 6, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the firehouse at the corner of North 8th Avenue and Louis Street. St. Mary’s Catholic Church holds monthly Slavic dinner
Wed., May 11 — St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church holds its monthly dinner, 4 to 7 p.m., in the St. Mary Parish Center, 1900 Brooks Blvd. $14 for adults (ages 9 and up) and $5 for children (8 and younger). All-you-can-eat pirohi, stuffed cabbage, kielbasa and sauerkraut, mashed potatoes.

South Branch Reformed Church schedules spring bazaar, craft sale
Sat., May 14 — A “Joy of Spring” bazaar and craft sale will be sponsored by the South Branch Reformed Church from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on River Road. The event will offer crafts, handmade items, home décor, vintage items, new and gently used items, specialty vendors, refreshments and a silent auction.
