HOPEWELL TWP.: Two DWI cases are reported

Hopewell Township police reported two incidents of alleged driving while under the influence:
 On May 2 at 12:16 a.m. Officer John Ferner stopped a 2013 Volkswagen on Route 518 for speeding an alleged 62 in a 40 mph zone. While speaking to the driver, who was identified as Jonathan Tello, 26, of Windsor Way, Hopewell, the officer said he smelled alcohol. After roadside sobriety testing Mr. Ferner was placed under arrest and charged with driving while under the influence and for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia (a pipe).
He was taken to police headquarters, from where he was released to a family member. His case will be heard in municipal court.
— On April 30 at 8:03 p.m. Officer George Peterson stopped a 2015 Jeep for speeding an alleged 73 in a 45 mph zone in Hopewell Township. The officer said he smelled alcohol on the driver, who was identified as Benedict N. Genovario, 66, of Washington Crossing-Pennington Road, Pennington.
After roadside sobriety testing Mr. Genovario was placed under arrest and taken to police headquarters and later released to a friend. His case will be heard in municipal court.
