Dairy lovers are invited to learn how American colonists made cheese and butter at Washington Crossing Historic Park’s free Dairy Day on Sunday, May 22, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The culinary art of dairy making was developed centuries ago, before the advent of commercial butter and cheese production, using basic equipment and techniques. Visitors can watch as a historical interpreter churns butter and makes homemade cheese in the Hibbs House. A lucky few can try their hand at the kitchen tools used in Washington’s day.
The park will be open that day for regular tours from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Washington Crossing Historic Park commemorates the site of General George Washington’s Delaware River crossing on Christmas Day 1776. The park is located at the intersection of Routes 32 and 532.
