I was appalled when watching televised accounts of the riots outside Donald Trump rallies this week. That could have happened here when Gov. Christie accompanied the presidential candidate to a rally at the National Guard Armory in Lawrence Township on May 19. I am sure that many breathed a sign of relief when it didn’t.
I wonder how many know of the meticulous planning that went into protecting the safety of residents — especially the students at the Lawrence Intermediate School across from the armory. Township Manager Richard Krawczun; Gregory Whitehead, director of Public Works; Police Chief Mark Ubry and Lt. Joseph Amodio; School Superintendent Crystal Edwards and Thomas Eldridge, district business manager, implemented an impeccable plan to make certain that every one of the 900 students was able to get home safely. The communication with parents was extraordinary.
These individuals have earned our gratitude and respect for their professionalism and their ability to work as a team to ensure public safety.
