EAST WINDSOR — The nonprofit Joshua Harr Shane Foundation will host its 15th annual Joshua Golf Classic to raise funds for those in need within the region, across the state, and around the world.
Organizers expect more than 200 people to attend this year’s event on June 21 at Mercer Oaks in West Windsor.
“We are looking forward to a night to remember with the Joshua Harr Shane Foundation. The generous support of our donors allows us to make a difference in the community.” said Judith Shane, who manages the everyday operationsof the foundation incepted in her son’s honor.
The foundation formed in 2000 to honor the legacy of Joshua Harr Shane, a Hightstown High School graduate, Princeton Hospital volunteer, and Rutgers sophomore. It helps children in need, families facing a crisis, and the military.
Joshua, who had long dreamed of becoming a doctor prior to his death in 2000, recently had a rehabilitation room dedicated in his honor at the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in Hamilton. The foundation furnished state-of-the-art equipment for the room, which will help rehabilitate patients to reach their full physical potential. The foundation is currently in the process of donating a second room for stroke therapy, The Joshua Harr Shane Stoke Rehabilitation Room at RWJ Barnabas Health.
“Joshua is impacting the lives of each and every person who visits his rehab room,” said Mrs. Shane. “Joshua’s dream was to become a doctor, as seen in ‘Patch Adams.’”
For the past 15 years, the foundation has concentrated on helping children, families, and causes in need of support across New Jersey and around the world. The Joshua Classic has raised more than $350,000. In 2015, the event raised about $30,000.
The Joshua Harr Shane Foundation helps where insurance falls short with experimental treatment, needed equipment, therapy, doctor bills, and funds for gas and tolls for transportation to and from doctor visits, hotel stays for families during medical treatments of a family member, and with mortgage payments and household bills during difficult times due to illness. The foundation ships care packages and phone cards to our military overseas as well as supply tickets to area events to create lasting family memories. It donates new clothing, journals, shoes, and more toWomen’s Space of Mercer County and offers scholarships at Hightstown High School, Beth El Synagogue, and St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church.
