HILLSBOROUGH: College students gain honors

Samantha York of Hillsborough, a junior at Rutgers University, was inducted into the Kappa Tau Alpha national honor society. Membership is extended to the top 10 percent of graduating seniors and rising juniors in the journalism and media studies program.

Malinda Rossi, a 2014 graduate from Hillsborough High School, was named to the dean’s list for the spring semester at West Chester (Pa.) University, where she is an elementary education major. Students must achieve a 3.67 grade-point average to be eligible.

Zoe B. Bodzas, daughter of Holly and John Bodzas of Hillsborough, was named the recipient of The George A. Watrous Literary Prize at Hamilton College’s annual Class & Charter Day at Hamilton College in Clinton, N.Y., on May 9.
The George A. Watrous Literary Prizes, established by Mrs. Edgar W. Couper in memory of her father, who was an English teacher and scholar, are awarded in poetry, fiction and criticism, with an additional prize for the winner whose work is considered to be the most promising.
Zoe, a senior majoring in creative writing, is a 2012 graduate of Hillsborough High School.
This spring, Zoe also won the annual Kathryn Irene Glascock Intercollegiate Poetry Contest, the oldest such contest in the country, at Mount Holyoke College.

 Ashley Landesman, a member of the Class of 2017 from Hillsborough, was recognized as a member of the Muhlenberg College chapter of Phi Beta Kappa in an induction ceremony on Sunday, May 1, at the school in Allentown, Pa.
Based on national standards, election to Phi Beta Kappa represents the most outstanding academic achievement in the arts and sciences.
Ashley is a biology major and public health minor from Hillsborough. She is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Landesman and is a graduate of Hillsborough High School.

, a member of the class of 2017, was one of more than 100 students cited at an Honors Convocation ceremony on Sunday, May 1, at Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pa.
Brittany Smith, a member of the class of 2017, was one of more than 100 students cited at an Honors Convocation ceremony on Sunday, May 1, at Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pa.
Brittany received a student summer research grant, which are awarded to students who have demonstrated excellent academic skills and the ability to undertake a self-directed study on a specific topic of interest. These grants, selected through competitive proposals, are intended for students who plan to engage in research or independent study that will lead to publication, presentation, exhibition or performance.
Brittany is a psychology major and public health major from Hillsborough.

Sydney Gonzalez of Hillsborough, a freshman at Ursinus College in Pa., was named to the dean’s list for the spring semester. The list recognizes full-time students who earned a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher for the semester.

Local students have been honored for academic achievement at Coastal Carolina University in Conway, S.C., for the spring semester.
Brianna Tramutolo, a senior from Hillsborough majoring in marine science, has made the President’s List for high academic achievement. To qualify, students must earn a 4.0 grade-point average and must be enrolled full time.
Stephen Tafaro and Kiersten VanCleef are among the approximately 1,940 students to make the spring semester dean’s list.
To qualify, upperclassmen must earn a 3.5 grade point average.
Stephen is a sophomore majoring in intelligence and national security studies. Kiersten is a sophomore majoring in exercise and sport science.

Tyler Josbeno of Hillsborough, a junior majoring in mass communications, has been named to the dean’s list for the spring semester at York (Pa.) College.To be eligible, a student must be registered for at least 12 academic credit hours and earn a semester GPA of 3.50 or higher.

Hillsborough’s Nathan Schwab, a communication science and disorders major, usually a program to prepare students to become speech language pathologists, in the College of Nursing and Health Sciences, was named to the dean’s list for the spring semester at the University of Vermont, located in Burlington.
Students must have a grade-point average of 3.0 or better and rank in the top 20 percent of their class in their respective college or school.
