• The Ocean-Monmouth Hearing Loss Support Group will meet at 1:30 p.m. Sept. 11 at the Monmouth County Library Headquarters, Manalapan. Audiologist Carrie Shapiro-Basen will discuss hearing loss issues, tinnitus and communications strategies for deaf and hard of hearing people. • A free workshop about separating the myths from facts of financial aid will be presented at the Howell Library at 7 p.m. Sept. 13. Guest speaker Chuck Drawbaugh is the founder and president of College Funding Associates, Rumson. He is the author of “How to Send Your Child to College without Going Broke.” Seating is limited. • The Millstone Elks will host their first Antique and Classic Car Show from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 15 at the Millstone Township Middle School, 5 Dawson Ct., Millstone Township. • The New Egypt Elks will host a “Touch A Truck” event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 10 at 105 Lakewood Road, New Egypt. • Congregation Ahavat Olam, 106 Windeler Road, Howell, will host a vendor/craft fair on Sept. 25 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event will feature jewelry, wood products, Tupperware, sports, soaps, books, party supplies, elder law services, banking services, Judaica, clothing, handbags and more. • Bat Shalom Hadassah of Jackson-Howell will host a Hootenany at Doolan’s Shore Club, Spring Lake, from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Oct. 27. There will be entertainment, a band for dancing and a complete lunch. Music will feature a tribute to performers of the 1960s, including Peter, Paul and Mary, the Kingston Trio and more. • The Monmouth County Genealogy Society will present its fall workshop, “An In-Depth Look at Federal Census Records,” on Oct. 1 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Community Center, 72 Broad St., Eatontown. Four presenters will focus on that topic. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. The cost is $15 for society members ($20 at the door) and $20 for non-members. • “Digging for Roots in the Garden State” will be the topic at the Sept. 11 Monmouth County Genealogy Society general meeting at 1:30 p.m. at the Community Center, 72 Broad St., Eatontown. The speaker will be Michelle Chubenko, a professional genealogist whose company, Jersey Roots Genealogy, performs research using statewide sources at the state archives and other local repositories for northern and central New Jersey. • Jackson Rotary Club is sponsoring a bus trip to the Tropicana Casino, Atlantic City, on Sept. 18. Cost of $34 includes bus transportation, lunch and beverages on the bus, $25 back in slot play from the casino, and gratuity for driver. • The 19th annual Citizen Police Academy will be held at the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office Public Safety Center, Freehold Township, beginning Sept. 20 (six Tuesdays, 6-8 p.m., no fee). Citizen Police Academy provides an overview of law enforcement services in Monmouth County. Applications are available to county residents age 18 or older who have no criminal record. • “Inferno at Sea, Stories of Death and Survival Aboard the Morro Castle” will be presented at the Howell Library, 318 Old Tavern Road, Howell, on Sept. 8, which is the 82nd anniversary of the fire aboard the ship. The Morro Castle was sailing along the Jersey coast on its way from Cuba to New York when disaster struck on Sept. 8, 1934. This free program, which starts at 6:30 p.m., will be presented by authors Deb Whitcraft and Gretchen Coyle, who are maritime historians. The program is co-sponsored by the Heritage Group of Howell and the Friends of the Howell Library. Light refreshments to be served.
• St. Aloysius School, 935 Bennetts Mill Road, Jackson, invites all middle school students to its annual High School Night on Sept. 22 from 7-9 p.m. Catholic high schools from the diocese, the Ocean County Vocational Performing Arts Academy and MATES, and Jackson STEM have been invited to present information to students and their parents. • The United Republican Club of Howell will meet on Sept. 20, Oct. 18 and Nov. 15 at the Howell First Aid Squad building, 16 Kent Road, Howell. Meetings start at 7:30 p.m. All are welcome to attend. • The Friends of the Plumsted Library will collect used books for a book sale. Donate fiction, nonfiction, large print, children’s books, CDs, DVDs, audio books, and puzzles. No soiled or mildewed items. No video tapes, Reader’s Digest condensed books, magazines or encyclopedias. Drop off books behind the Plumsted Library, 119 Evergreen Road, New Egypt, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the first Saturday of each month – Sept. 3, and Oct. 1. Do not leave items if no one is present. • Vendors are being sought for a fall flea market to be held at St. John the Baptist Church, 1282 Yardville-Allentown Road, Upper Freehold Township (Allentown), from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 24 (rain or shine) in the church parking lot. • The Jackson Premium Outlets, Route 537, Jackson, will present a summer concert every Saturday from 1-4 p.m., weather permitting, outside the food court. The series will conclude on Sept. 3. All performances are free and open to the public. Live performances will range from summer tunes to bluegrass, classic rock and pop.
• The Jackson Township Municipal Utilities Authority will hold its public meetings at 5:30 p.m. in its administrative offices at 135 Manhattan St., Jackson, on the following dates in 2016: Sept. 22, Oct. 27, Nov. 17, Dec. 15; and on the following dates in 2017: Jan. 26 and Feb. 2 (reorganization).
