Last month many Hightstown residents and the greater community gathered on the streets to support America’s 9/11 Ride as the riders passed through the borough. The annual memorial ride, sponsored by the Americas 911 Foundation, was founded to remember the heroes, volunteers, and victims of September 11.
Organizers had announced that this year’s ride would be the last one as the cost, logistics of and work involved in the event had become prohibitive.
The Borough of Highstown hopes that is not the case, and has passed a resolution with the hope that the foundation will find a way to continue the annual event.
Council resolution 2016-172 read: “The borough and its residents support the America’s 9/11 Ride and request that this event receive the support necessary for the continuation of the America’s 9/11 Ride throughout America.”
“It was truly an amazing experience. The event itself was so well organized and there was so much community support. The ride was also very special to me as a first responder in lower Manhattan on September 11th,” said ride participant and Councilman Seth Kurs.
“America’s 9/11 ride is so patriotic, and we should never forget. We have been privileged to be part of the pass-through for several years. The borough believes it should continue and this resolution will encourage the advancement of it,” said Mayor Larry Quattrone.
