- The Plumsted library will host a “Fabulous ’50s Sock Hop” on Oct. 3 at 6:30 p.m. Come in 1950s attire and receive a treat. There will be games, crafts and music from the 1950s. Details: 609-758-7888.

• Congregation Ahavat Olam, 106 Windeler Road, Howell, will host a vendor/craft fair on Sept. 25 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event will feature jewelry, wood products, Tupperware, sports, soaps, books, party supplies, elder law services, banking services, Judaica, clothing, handbags and more. • A fall flea market will be held at St. John the Baptist Church, 1282 Yardville-Allentown Road, Upper Freehold Township (Allentown), from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 24 (rain or shine). Proceeds will benefit the St. Vincent de Paul Society. All welcome to attend.

• The Jackson library is partnering with the Smithsonian Institution to showcase posters that have been provided to the library about African American history and culture. • The Howell Women’s Club will meet on Oct. 11 at 7:30 p.m. in the Taunton School media center. Members and guests will assemble Halloween treat bags for the Howell Food Pantry clients and for senior citizens of Howell who receive Meals on Wheels. All area ladies are welcome to attend. • The Howell Municipal Alliance will present a free life skills management program for Howell residents in the fifth, sixth and seventh grades, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, Oct. 4-19 at Kumon Learning Center, Howell. To register a child, contact [email protected] by Sept. 30.

• A multi-family community yard sale will be held at Jensen’s Deep Run community center, 20 Longview Trail, Cream Ridge (Plumsted Township) on Sept. 24 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. (rain or shine). All are welcome to attend. The entrance to Jensen’s Deep Run is on Route 537, a short distance east of the Route 537 and Route 539 intersection. • Affiliated Foot and Ankle Center, 4645 Route 9 north, Howell, will provide complimentary children’s foot and ankle exams from noon to 3 p.m. Oct. 8. There will be refreshments. Children who exhibit in-toeing, heel pain, flat feet, ingrown toenails, plantar warts, pain or tiredness of the feet or legs, limping, falling or tripping may feel free to visit the office.
• Archives and History Day will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 8 at the Monmouth County Library Headquarters, Manalapan. • St. Aloysius Church, 935 Bennetts Mills Road, Jackson, offers support groups to help people better understand their feelings and to meet others who are dealing with the same life issues. A bereavement support group meets on the second Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. and a divorced and separated support group meets on the fourth Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. Both meetings are held in the parish office. • Howell Day will be held from 1-8 p.m. Sept. 24 at Soldier Memorial Park, Howell. All are invited to enjoy children’s activities, face painting, a video game truck, free inflatable and mechanical rides, Touch-A-Truck, live entertainment, vendors, food vendors, fireworks and more. • The Millstone Elks will host their first Antique and Classic Car Show from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 15 at the Millstone Township Middle School, 5 Dawson Ct., Millstone Township. • Bat Shalom Hadassah of Jackson-Howell will host a Hootenany at Doolan’s Shore Club, Spring Lake, from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Oct. 27. There will be entertainment, a band for dancing and a complete lunch. Music will feature a tribute to performers of the 1960s, including Peter, Paul and Mary, the Kingston Trio and more. • The Monmouth County Genealogy Society will present its fall workshop, “An In-Depth Look at Federal Census Records,” on Oct. 1 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Community Center, 72 Broad St., Eatontown. • The Friends of the Plumsted Library will collect used books for a book sale. Donate fiction, nonfiction, large print, children’s books, CDs, DVDs, audio books, and puzzles.
