Twenty-five percent of girls in India have never been to school. Of those that have, only 30 percent have completed high school. Hear from Jacqueline de Chollet, the founder of the nonprofit Veerni Project (featured on NPR), which empowers girls in rural Indian villages to get a high school education, gain independence, and avoid becoming child brides. Beth El Synagogue of East Windsor Genealogy Club will sponsor a discussion titled, “Jump Start Your Genealogical Research” at 7:30 p.m. In many cases knowing where to start your genealogical search can save a huge amount of your time and effort. Doing genealogy was once a solitary task. There was no way to find out who else, if anyone, was doing research on the same families as you were. The Hightstown High School After Prom Committee is planning its Bingo fundraising event at the Hightstown High School cafeteria, 25 Leshin Lane, Hightstown. Doors open at 6 p.m. and Bingo will be played from 7 to 10 p.m. Admission for the event, for ages 18 and over, is $25, which includes four cards/15 games, light snacks and beverages. Additional boards will be available for purchase and there will be a 50/50 raffle. Proceeds will benefit the 2017 Hightstown High School after-prom event.

Saluts de Salies – Ten Months in Southwest France, at 7 p.m. at the Cranbury Public Library. This program will be presented by Cranbury resident Richard Moody. He will speak about the 10 months he and his wife, Lisa, recently spent in a 400-year old house in the medieval town of Salies de Bearn in the province of Bearn in southwest France. Central Jersey Chapter 148 of Korean War Veterans Association: Any veterans who served during the war from June 25, 1950 to July 27, 1953 or who have served in Korea from July 27, 1953 to the current date can join the group that meets at 10 a.m. the second Wednesday of every month (except January, February, March and April) at the Monroe Township Municipal Building. Requirements for membership include paying dues of $25 to the Korean War Veterans Association and a $10 chapter fee per year. The chapter is involved in various functions throughout the year including parades with color guard, flag raisings, Korean War memorial ceremonies, funerals and more. Food Pantry: The Rise Food Pantry is open 52 weeks a year from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and from 5 to 7 p.m. the first Wednesday of each month. Baby care items, personal products and all nonperishable and perishable food items are needed for local families. The pantry welcomes locally grown fruits and vegetables. Food can be donated directly to the pantry at 225 Franklin St., Hightstown, during operating hours or to the Greater Goods Thrift Store, 114 Rogers Ave., Hightstown.
