EAST WINDSOR: Township seeks volunteers for boards and committees

East Windsor Township officials are encouraging residents to volunteer to serve on various township boards and committees.
Among the boards and committees that need volunteers are: the Clean Communities Advisory Committee, Commission on Aging, East Windsor Municipal Alliance for the Prevention of Substance Abuse, East Windsor Municipal Utilities Authority, Economic Development Committee, Environmental Commission, Health Advisory Board, Local Assistance Board, Planning Board, Recreation Commission, and Zoning Board of Adjustment.
As examples, the Clean Communities Advisory Committee is responsible for grant implementation pursuant to the State Clean Communities program by planning and implementing activities for litter cleanup; the Commission on Aging advises the township council in the development, coordination and integration of the various program and services available to senior citizens; the East Windsor Municipal Utilities Authority administers water and sewer service with the township pursuant to a service agreement with the township; the Planning Board reviews applications for residential and commercial development, reviews and adopts the Township Master Plan and reviews zoning ordinance changes for the council; and the Recreation Board prepares and presents to council and the director of recreation such programs, plans and activities appropriate to the recreational needs of the township.
A full description can be found on the township’s website.
Mayor Janice S. Mironov and the council make appointments at the January reorganization meeting, as well as throughout the year as opportunities occur.
“We encourage residents to become a contributing part of their government by volunteering to serve on a township board or committee. Our government operates best when volunteers offer input and advice on our operations and projects,” said Mayor Mironov. “Public participation provides mutual benefits for residents and elected officials, and hopefully stimulates citizens to have a greater interest in and understanding of the role of local government.”
Residents interested in volunteering can obtain an application form from the municipal clerk or from the township website at www.east-windsor.nj.us.
Or, they can send a letter of interest and a resume or information about their background to: Mayor Janice S.
