PRINCETON: Hun rallies to keep grid streak alive

It didn’t take Jordan Morris to feel right at home with the Hun School football program.
“The second day of practice they felt like they were family,” said Morris, a junior from Burlington who is in his first season with the Raiders. “Everyone came up to me like I was their brother.”
Morris has fit right in with the Raiders and last Saturday helped them to their 21st straight win. Hun rallied from a 14-0 deficit to top Peddie, 23-14, and clinch a tie for the Mid-Atlantic Prep League championship. The Raiders can win the title outright with a win over Mercersburg on Sunday.
Hun seemed to be in trouble against the Falcons, but put together a strong second half behind a strong running game and strong offensive line. Josh Henderson scored on a 1-yard run and added a two-point conversion run to pull Hun within 14-8. The Raiders then scored on a backward pass to offensive tackle Fred Hansard, who rambled 15 yards for a touchdown and a 15-14 lead. Malcolm Brunson would add a touchdown run later to increase the lead.
“I loved it,” Morris said of the battle in the trenches. “When we were down 14-0, I still felt like they were not better than us. At halftime our coaches got in our heads and told us we were the better team and we came out like gangbusters.
“As an offensive line we just had to buckle down and we did.”
Peddie had gotten out to a 14-0 lead behind a couple of big plays from the offense.
“That’s what we talked about at halftime,” Hun coach Todd Smith said. “We said we were two big plays away from them having no points on the board. I was real happy with how the defense played. I thought we took over in the second half, especially the fourth quarter.
“The kids made plays. We capitalized off some mistakes they made. The kids just kept making plays and we never gave up on each other. We just kept playing.”
Hun has now won 21 straight and will look to complete its second straight unbeaten season with a win over Mercersburg.
“I think we’re a system,” said Smith, who is 22-1 in three years at Hun. “Each team I have had here in the three years at Hun has been a much different team. This team is not like the team I had two years ago or the team I had last year. They just grind and find a way. The kids just kept responding.”
