Ithaca College soccer player and East Windsor native Caitlin Douglass was named Sportswoman of the Year by the Empire 8 Conference.
Kayla Roca of Hightstown is one of more than 200 student-athletes who competed for the Flying Dutchmen during the Fall 2016 semester. Ms. Roca, a graduate of The Peddie School, is pursuing a bachelor of science in health science at The Valley.
She was a member of the women’s soccer team that finished the 2016 season with an overall record of 12-6 and made a return to the MAC Commonwealth Tournament. The Dutchmen won the Play-In Game 1-0 against Albright before falling to the No. 5 team in the country, Messiah, by a 2-0 score in the Semifinal round.

Jessica Van Dusen of Monroe Township is one of 37 Alvernia students among the second class of Real World Experience Award recipients this fall. A senior studying Occupational Therapy at Alvernia, Ms. Van Dusen will use award funds for academic fieldwork, over spring and summer.

Students applying for Real World Experience awards receive up to $2,000 to support participation in a variety of opportunities

Along with a monthlong series of panels discussions, lectures and performances on important election issues, the volunteer opportunity provided a once-in-a-lifetime educational experience that inspired students to engage in the democratic process and embrace their responsibility as citizens and voters. Hofstra University is the only institution in the nation to host three consecutive presidential debates, and its 2016 debate was the most widely watched in American history.
Etienne Cossart of East Windsor, Class of 2019, spent the days leading up to new student orientation this fall helping with local service projects as part of Lafayette’s Pre-Orientation Service Program (POSP), coordinated through the Landis Center.
Etienne was among 60 students selected to serve at five major Easton community sites: The West Ward Neighborhood Partnership Camp, Kids in the Community Day Camp, Firth Youth Center, Teens in the Community Day Camp, and The Easton Area Lifestyle Campus for seniors.
Volunteers participated in various activities and took on a number of roles at their designated service sites–painting, gardening, renovating, serving as classroom aids and camp counselors, just to name a few. Most importantly, volunteers had the opportunity to foster remarkable friendships with young children, teens, and seniors in the community through their experience with POSP.
