To the editor:, As many in the community may know, the American Ash Trees are in danger of extinction because of the assault of the Emerald Ash Borer, a tiny but deadly invasive insect feasting on ash trees throughout our community and North America. Scientists and citizens are working together to combat the loss of this icon of our forests and communities., This past year, Hopewell Township developed a website to map the location of our ash trees and members of the Hopewell Township Environmental Commission have surveyed roads and communities throughout the township and ‘pinned’ them on the map. We now have a tremendous resource where you can see where ash trees are located in our community and pin your own trees on the map: http://www.haveyoursayhopewelltwp.org/, Residents of Hopewell Township, Hopewell Borough and Pennington are encouraged to visit the website and pin their trees onto the map., In addition to tracking ash trees, the website has a short video on identification of the tree and the insect, as well as many useful links to help you in making a decision on how to proceed to protect your trees., In our fear over the cost of tree removal, many are rushing to remove the trees before they die. Learn how to protect your trees in an economical manner and preserve our sense of place here in the Valley. Visit the site to learn more and get involved in our efforts and join the fight to protect and preserve the American Ash Tree., Dr. Nora Sirbaugh, Hopewell Township Environmental Commissioner
