Events honoring the legacy of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. will be held throughout the area on Monday, Jan. 16, the day the nation honors the contributions of the slain civil rights leader, including the following:, Princeton, Princeton University will host a community breakfast to celebrate the life and legacy of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., from 8:30 to 10 a.m. on Monday in the multipurpose room of the Fields Center., The public and members of the university community are welcome to attend., The MLK Day event will feature remarks by Princeton Council member Lance Liverman and a musical performance by the First Baptist Church of Princeton Unity Choir., The Princeton Clergy Association (PCA) will host its annual Interfaith Service in honor of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at 7 p.m. on Monday at Princeton United Methodist Church, located at the corner of Vandeventer Avenue and Nassau Street. All are welcome; the church is wheelchair accessible., “Attendees are encouraged to bring their children, as the service will conclude by 8:30 p.m. to enable them to go to bed in a timely way on a school night,” said the Rev. Robert Moore, treasurer of the PCA and executive director of the Coalition for Peace Action., Minister William D. Carter — minister, singer, songwriter, and conference speaker — will preach. A third-year student at Princeton Theological Seminary, and the former minister of music at First Baptist Church of Princeton, he has served in South Africa and directs an organization that plans interfaith events at the United Nations. The site where the event will take place was formerly the headquarters of Princeton Nurseries, once one of the largest wholesale tree nurseries in the United States. In 1995, over 200 acres of the Princeton Nursery lands were preserved, and the historic sales office for Princeton Nurseries was transformed into the headquarters for the Delaware and Raritan Canal State Park.
