college gets state grant
The New Jersey Department of Labor has awarded a new grant to a local business to help its workers compete in the new economy and create 106 new jobs. The Institute for Technical Development at Middlesex County College will provide training for more than half of the company’s workers, including the new hires, in English as a second language, Spanish for managers and computer skills. The company, Crate & Barrel, is expanding its distribution presence in New Jersey by building a 675,00-square-foot distribution center in Cranbury. The state will invest $165,684 in the training program, and the company will match that with a $160,516 contribution.
‘Meals on Wheels’ drivers urgently needed
Jewish Family and Vocational Services of Middlesex County urgently needs caring volunteers to deliver meals to homebound clients. Due to a planned expansion of our Highland Park route, there are at least five immediate openings in this area.
The Kosher Meals on Wheels program is a five-day-a-week service that provides two daily meals to seniors and disabled individuals.
Volunteers are asked to commit to one consistent delivery morning a week, with each route running approximately 90 minutes. Someone who is unable to drive can still make a meaningful contribution as a "jumper," a navigator who works alongside the driver to deliver the meals.
