PRINCETON: Approval of affordable housing deal will have to wait a little longer

A settlement outlining Princeton’s affordable housing requirement is “very close” to being finalized but not close enough for council to approve on Monday, Mayor Liz Lempert said Friday., She had hoped to get the deal voted on at the next council meeting, but that will have to wait at least a little bit longer., The agreement, ending the legal battle between the town and the Fair Share Housing Center, a Cherry Hill-based affordable housing advocacy group, will say the number of affordable units the town is responsible for, from a span of 1999 to 2025. Mayor Lempert cited legal advice for not disclosing what that figure would be., “We’ll have full details when (the) settlement is finalized but not before,” she said in a text message., While the council is scheduled on Monday to discuss the litigation in closed session, action by the governing body will have to wait., Mayor Lempert said that if a deal is reached before the next Council meeting June 12, she expects to try to have a special meeting for the governing body to approve the settlement.
